Congratulations to the 2010 Lone Star State Champions, the Langham Creek HS Lobos. Under the leadership of Matt Bennett, this team of young guns stomped through the competition in this one day, 16 team tournament held in College Station.

Holding their opponents to no more than 7 points in every game, the boys from Langham went undefeated in pool play, earning the second seed going into bracket play. In quarters, they saw local rivals Clear Lake HS, rolling them 13-4. Next was a rematch of the 1v2 game in Pool 2, against a tall and huck-happy team from Highland Park, Dallas. LCU repeated the results with big marks and some athletic defensive play, particularly from senior Bobby Lewis.
In the finals, Langham saw their biggest competition in the Belton Flying Biscuits, a deep team of squirrelly kids with neon green hats. The Biscuits had also gone undefeated through the day to match up with the Lobos. However, between solid action between the Mitchell brothers and expert coaching from Melvin Wang, Langham quickly won the game 13-6, sending the Biscuits to the ICU.
Langham Creek did an excellent job representing Houston this past weekend, so be sure to congratulate these young players next time you see them - whether on the college circuit in the fall, or playing on their club team HIP. Next up for the Lobos? The Texas High School State Tournament in Round Rock on April 17-18.
Also of worthy note: On March 27-28, Langham Creek HS alumni Mitchell Bennett flew to Seattle, Washington to try out for the 2010 US Junior Nationals Team. Only 80 applicants are allowed to try out, and 20 selected to play for Team USA in Heilbronn, Germany this August. Out of the 80 applicants from all over the US, Mitchell dominated with the quickest times in the 40yd and 70yd dash, with a great overall tryout. Please congratulate Mitchell and wish him luck as he will find out within a week whether or not he makes Team USA. Mitchell follows in the footsteps of fellow Houston youth Evan Winograd, who represented Team USA at the 2008 World Games. Mitchell played with Langham this past weekend as a returning alumni, and currently plays on the University of Texas TUFF.
