Reminder: Open Pickup and Houston Open Ultimate Discussion tonight

Everyone,

Oh. My. God! The weather is gorgeous. I can't wait to strap on my cleats and play some ulty. But I'm even more excited about the discussion about the future of Houston Open Ultimate tonight after pickup. We had a great discussion this past Saturday and I know tonight is going to be better. On that note, if you have to choose between pickup and the discussion tonight then CHOOSE DISCUSSION. I rarely ever tell people not to come to pickup but this is one of those rare occasions. Everyone is invited. Please pass this along to anyone who you think would be interested.

Tuesday, March 23rd
6:15pm-7:40ishpm(dark) - Open Pickup at field 1 of the UH IM fields - please see map for parking locations...you might get a ticket for parking in the lot.
8pm-8:30pm discussion at Melvin Wang's house (5 mins from UH fields).

There has been some recent buzz about a new Houston Mens club team forming. Truth is that Sean McCall, Black Angus leadership and a few other competitive players including myself have been kicking around an idea for the past couple months. We'd like to invite all of you to the following events for some sweet disc action and a discussion about the new idea. All levels, ages and both genders are invited. We value everyone's opinion and would love the feedback. Trust me, you don't want to miss this if you are interested in playing competitive open ultimate.

Exciting News! - Houston Open Ultimate

There has been some recent buzz about a new Houston Mens club team forming.

Black Angus Invitation

Black Angus is an Ultimate club in Houston which will begin its 10 season this year. Part of the reason that Black Angus agrees to run Winter League each year is to provide exposure for our organization and to recruit new talent to the team. If you are interested in playing club level Ultimate please contact Matt MacDonald (m_macdonaldtx@yahoo.com), Daniel Fritz (daniel.fritz@okstate.edu) or myself (tahj67@yahoo.com). For more information keep reading...

Winter League Wrap Up

I hope you all enjoyed Winter League this year.
Please fill out the attached survey so HUC can continue to improve and offer you what you are looking for.
Winter League Survey
Congratulations to team 8 (Goat) for winning the HUC Winter League 09-10 Championship. Can't say I blame most of you for not sticking around to watch the finals in the cold weather but you did miss a very tight game between the two top seeds. Final standings are here.

HFL Hat Tourney - Volunteers Needed

HFL is our biggest charity event each year. Its success is largely dependent on solid volunteer work from our many great people in HUC. If you can help in any of the following areas, then please shoot me an email. Even if you can't commit to playing (injury, schedule), you can still really be an asset to the tourney! Volunteering to pick up food or help make the spaghetti is big, and donating these items to increase the overage to the charity is even more humongous!

Tournament is on

Despite the rain the tournament is a go. I will try very hard to stay on schedule to respect people's time. Please assist in this endeavor by being ready to start on time.

Thanks,

Thomas

HFL Registration and Payment

Have you registered for HFL (Feb 6, next Saturday)? You should!
http://houstonultimate.org/HFL

Have you paid your entry fee for HFL? You should, or you will incur the dreaded late fee on the day-of. The HUC treasurer (Eric Strom) will be out at the tourney tomorrow. If you are not on the Paypal bandwagon, and you would like to pay your HFL entry fee with cash or check, then tomorrow at the tourney will likely be your best chance to do so.

Email me (dewavy@yahoo.com) or Eric (treasurer@houstonultimate.org) if you have questions.

All you need to know about the tournament on Saturday

Please expand to read entire message, it is rather lengthy.

*The tournament bracket is now available on the HUC website (see "tournament" under Winter League). Please note the schedule on the HUC website DOES NOT SHOW the correct seeding for the tournament. The sorting on the website is based on point differential but the seeding, when tied, is based on head to head results. Here is the seeding.

12,8,2,9,10,4,11,7,6,5,3,1

This is most important to teams 2 and 10. Team 2 gets a first round bye while team 10 must win to make it into the quarter finals.

Tournament start time 9am.

In an effort to make sure everyone is aware this is the first notification regarding start time for the tournament this Saturday.
The bottom 8 teams will have their first game at NINE am. Top 4 get a first round bye.
Bracket will be posted soon.

Saturday the 23rd

Read full version for information regarding tournament format!

This coming Saturday is the last day of regular season play. Last chance to move up in the seeding for the tournament scheduled for the 30th.

You may have already been informed by your captains that Texas' own 5th place Nationals finisher and Worlds qualifier 'Showdown' will be in town and they are looking for a game against the Winter League All Stars.

Each team is asked to put forward 2 players (men and/or women) for an exhibition game after WL at 1:30.

Huckin' For Laura 2010

Hey folks, it's time for HFL 2010! The Houston area will come together to celebrate life, love and ultimate again this year with our annual charity hat tournament. If you have never played in HFL (or a hat toruney) before, this one is a gem. It is a 1-day tourney all for charity. The tourney is about the celebration of an ultimate player whose life was taken too soon. You don't want to miss it!

HFL registration is open, so sign up now! http://houstonultimate.org/node/add/event-registration-hfl-2010

Winter League

Only two more weeks to go in the regular season. January 9th and 23rd. Still plenty of time to improve your seeding going into the tournament. Please note that Saturday morning is going to be COLD! Remember that it always feels colder at the UofH fields than it does in your drive way. Plus there will be a 10 mph breeze at the fields. Dress warm and think about having something on the sideline to put on when you are not playing.
Good news is the sun will be shining so don't let the cold weather discourage you from coming out.

Thanks,

Thomas

I am collecting all sorts of stuff that no one seems to be looking for.
I have...

Please take them off my hands. I park in the middle of the parking lot, be there by 9:45 to claim.

Don't forget that League is on for tomorrow the 2nd. Lot's of people are out of town for the Holiday so please come out or let your captain know if you are not available. The weather is going to be awesome!!

Happy New Year.

Don't forget, games are scheduled for Saturday the 2nd.

Ultimate Tomorrow

If you are free tomorrow come to UofH from 10 to 1 for some Ultimate. If the numbers are good we will try to get together a mini hat tournament.
